Gerik 70% Dark

In northern Perak, 30 minutes from the Thai border at the Betong checkpoint, Gerik’s landscape is sheltered three sides by gently rising hills, with an opening to the west. At approximately 400 metres above sea level, the farm is planted with durian intercropped with cacao, bananas, and other fruit trees.

At dawn, cicadas fade as birds take their turn. The morning breeze stirs the banana leaves. The soil is part sandy loam, but mostly clay, with cacao trees planted along the steeper sections. Cooler nights and gentle humidity encourage the pods to mature gradually; fermentation experiments are carried out to seek and define the cacao's flavour profile that is unique to this origin.

This batch of chocolate captures the lush vegetation and the quiet stillness of Gerik’s landscape. It opens with a grounded warmth of deep cocoa, followed by candied tropical fruit and hints of velvety rose petals. The lingering finish is unmistakably vegetation, with an impression of warm green tea sipped from an earthen bowl after a light rain.

Flavor notes: Candied tropical fruit, rose, warm green tea, deep cocoa.
